Humungus Fungus Fest, always the 2nd weekend in August
Crystal Falls is home of the Humungus Fungus Fest, which is because our community was built over a giant fungus (mushroom). This fungus is said to be the worlds largest and living organism. It is said to be 1,500-10,000 years old and weigh over 100 tons! The fungus was discovered by Myron L. Smith and James B. Anderson in 1988.
Every 2nd weekend in August, our community and many tourists from all over gather around at Runkle Lake Park, in Crystal Falls, MI to enjoy a giant pizza (with mushroom, of course!), play games, watch a softball game, drinks, dancing, a strongman competition and many other events! Everyone is welcome.
This Humungus Fungus Fest that is held in Crystal Falls made #9 on Bizarre Festivals in the U.S. (which is pretty neat considering how small our town is!)
